This is Where It All Started

I had only one dream in life—to become a fashion designer.

I’ve worked in the bridal couture industry in Calicut and Bangalore for over 10 years, creating outfits for brides on their big day. It was exciting, emotional, and honestly, a dream come true. I also got the chance to design costumes for movies and ads under my senior designer—which was a lot of fun and gave me a different kind of creative thrill.

But through it all, my love for cotton and handloom fabrics never faded. Over time, I started noticing the impact the fashion industry was having on the environment. The fabric waste, the rush to follow trends, the amount of clothes that were made and forgotten—it all started to bother me.

I took a break and moved to Auroville. That time changed me. I was fascinated by how slow living and slow fashion had actually transformed people’s lifestyles. It made me pause and reflect. I started reading and researching more about fast fashion and what really goes into making clothes at that pace.

That’s when I knew—if I ever started something of my own, it had to be different. It had to be rooted in conscious fashion.

But I didn’t want it to stop there. I wanted to create a space where fewer outfits could do more—where women could mix and match, travel light, and still feel fresh every time they wear them.

That’s when consciousness beyond clothing became my philosophy. It’s about being mindful—of what we wear, how we wear it, and why we choose what we choose. I chose to do this not because sustainability is a trend, but because as a designer, I believe it’s a responsibility.

And that’s how Urban Sanskar was born.

Handmade Creation Story

From Leftover Pieces to Most Loved

As a child, I watched my mother turn old clothes into something new—bags, mats, little rugs—stitched with love, not waste. That simple act of care stayed with me.

So when I started Urban Sanskar, I began saving every leftover bit of fabric, knowing they deserved more than just a bin. I shared them with a few of my friends' mothers—women who quietly held a passion for handmade crafts but never believed their work would be valued.

They created the most beautiful things.

At exhibitions, people loved them. And when I told these women that their pieces were appreciated, their eyes lit up. One of them said, “It’s not about the money... we just didn’t think anyone would want what we made.”

That moment meant everything.

Today, with every Urban Sanskar purchase, we include one of their handmade creations. Because your order doesn’t just support conscious clothing—it uplifts quiet hands, unseen hearts, and stories waiting to be heard.
